About Us
Kinect Australia is a not-for-profit association that strives to enhance individual health and well-being, build stronger communities and create more liveable and sustainable environments through the promotion of active living.Kinect was originally established as VICFIT by the Victorian Ministers for Health and Sport and Recreation in 1982 and it continues to provide high level advocacy and leadership, build the capacity of practitioners and organizations and offer support and guidance for the public.
Mission
To promote active living* to enhance health and well-being, build stronger communities and create more liveable and sustainable environments.
*Active living comprises all forms of physical activity and human movement including structured and unstructured sports, fitness and recreational pursuits, active transport and occupationally related exercise.
Key Objectives
1. Provide leadership, advocacy and support to influence and develop policy, directions, momentum, commitment and collaboration across government and non-government sectors for the promotion of active living.
2. Build the capacity of the organisations and professionals across sectors to increase public participation in phsical activity through the development, dissemination, coordination, delivery and evaluation of cost-effective and evidence-based strategies and programs.
3. Provide direct assistance to the public where appropriate to influence and support participation in appropriate activity and healthy lifestyle behaviours.
4. Ensure the organisation complies with all relevant regulations, requirements and agreements and operates at all times in a professional, ethical and fair manner, delivering the highest quality programs and services with the greatest possible impact.
Kinect Australia Board
Kinect Australia is governed by a Board which is currently chaired by Professor John Catford, Dean of the Faculty of Health, Behavioural Sciences and Medicine at Deakin University (Ex Chief Medical Officer for Victoria).
